Office of the State Health Department Director is the Head Office to the Department of State of Health, located at Jalan Bukit Gantang Chief Wahab, 30590 Ipoh, Perak. Originally it was a large house (mansion) owned by Chinese businessmen, Family Foo built in 1910. In early 1938 (the British) British Government took over this building to become a Doctor of the European community in Ipoh. Then it was used as Office “Sanitary Board” (Board of Hygiene) of the Kinta District until the era of “Occupied Japan”. In September 1945 the British Military Administration (British Military Administration-BMA) has started functioning. Medical and Health Office of the Director at that time based in Taiping. When the Public Administration (Civil Administration) began work on 1 April 1946 the building was used as the Office of the Director of Medical and Health Affairs. The first director was Dr. EA Struthers who served from May 9, 1946 until March 18, 1947.
