Institut Penyelidikan Perhutanan Malaysia (FRIM) is among the leading institutions in tropical forestry research, in and outside the country. Founded by a forest of British scientists in 1929, FRIM, formerly known as Forest Research Institute (IPI) is the earliest forest research institutions in Malaysia by Dr. W. Foxworthy as the first chief research officer. FRIM became a statutory body under the Forestry Research and Development Board of Malaysia in 1985 and placed under the Ministry of Primary Industries before moving to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2004.
Located in Kepong as far as 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur with an area of ??515 hectares, it is surrounded by Forest Hill Lagong. (The institute has also been named as a quality management system MS ISO 9001:2008) and is headed by Director General Dr. Abdul Latif Mohmod.
FRIM promote sustainable management and optimal use of forest resources by generating knowledge and technology through research, development and applications. Employees in various areas of expertise and award-winning research capabilities and international cooperation has enabled FRIM making a name in the field of tropical forestry.
