PERUSAHAAN OTOMOBIL NASIONAL BERHAD or PROTON was incorporated on May 7, 1983 to manufacture, assemble and sell motor vehicles and related products, including accessories, spare parts and other components. PROTON produced Malaysia’s first car, the Proton SAGA, commercially launched on July 9, 1985 by Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who had originally conceived the idea of a Malaysian car. Our main plant in Shah Alam, with an area of 923,900 sq metres, was originally designed for a capacity of 80,000 units per year. In 1997, capacity increased to 230,000 units per year with the construction of the Medium Volume Factory which is next to the Main Plant. Now the Shah Alam factory is capable of producing 240,000 vehicles per year.

1. Senior Manager, Industrial Relations / Union Management

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • At least ten (10) years related working experience in Industrial Relations, with at least five (5) years in managerial capacity, preferably in a unionized working environment
  • Well versed in Malaysian Employment Law such as Industrial Relations Act, Employment Act, etc.
  • Conversant with investigation procedures and hands-on experience in conducting domestic inquiries
  • Good knowledge of Industrial Court awards
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office
  • Good command of language (both written and oral) in English and Bahasa Melayu

2. Manager, Industrial Relations / Union Management

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • At least 7 years related working experience preferably in large organization
  • Experience in a unionized organization would be an added advantage
  • Well versed in Malaysian Employment Law such as Industrial Relations Act, Employment Act etc
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office
  • Good command of language (both written and oral) in English and Bahasa Melayu

3. Head of Group Information & Communication Technology

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Information System / Computer science or related discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of ICT related working experience
  • Experience in managing ICT team with a full spectrum of areas including Strategy & Governance, Applications & Infrastructure
  • Experience in complex and multiple project implementation
  • Being strong motivator can help build a strong team
  • Tech savvy – must know him / her field and how to leverage those technologies to help move the company forward.
  • Ability to think strategically to support the business’s goals and objectives
  • A solid understanding of financials – CIO are expected to know more about the business and to have business management skills
  • Good supply management capability – working with folks outside the company, particularly service and product vendors, who may not have the company’s best interest at heart

4. Head of Environmental, Health and Safety

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. (Hons), / Degree in Industrial Safety Management or similar discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience, preferably in environmental, health and safety in engineering industries and, with at least 8 years of working experience in manufacturing.
  • Must be a registered Certified Safety and Health Officer (Green Book) by Department Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
  • Well versed in Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and Environmental Quality Act (EQA) 1974, Fire Service Act and Environmental Management System.
  • Knowledge in ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
  • Proactive, strong analytical, resourceful, good leadership and project management skills.
  • Knowledgeable in investigation skills and produce comprehensive report for top management.
  • The skills to influence and communicate at all levels in the organization.
  • Good command of language (both written and oral) in English and Bahasa Melayu.
  • Develop and implement EHS plans and conduct annual review of the EHS Management Systems in order to ensure that there is compliance to EHS statutory regulations, and industry practices.
  • Develop a structured EHS organization with the necessary skills and capabilities thus enabling the team members to carry out their functions competently in order to achieve the highest level of efficiency in their respective roles.
  • Ensure proper emergency response plan is in place and timely response in order to maintain a high standard of safety within the organization, including incident-free operations.
  • Regularly compare PROTON’s EHS rating against other industries via networking and conferences in order to keep up-to-date with the latest industry practice.
  • Contribute to the protection of the environment by developing and implementing environmental policies and procedures that comply with ISO14000 or other relevant standards and best practices. Monitor conformance/compliance and issues directives or recommendations on corrective action as appropriate.
  • Ensure that complete, accurate and fully referenced records are kept and maintained for all licenses, permits, inventories, measurements and any data arising from the day to day management of all EHS matters. This is to ensure that evidence of compliance or non-compliance to regulatory or company policy requirements are available at all times.
  • Conduct surveys/assessments to verify that industrial hygiene conditions of all present and future PROTON locations and premises are in compliance with EHS requirements and associated standards.
  • Participate in both internal and external EHS audits to ensure that all EHS regulations, industry practices and shareholder requirements are met.
  • Investigate all industrial accidents and near misses involving personnel, plant equipment and environment.
  • Prepare presentations to the Shareholders and Board of Directors (BOD) on PROTON safety performance and areas of concern as well as highlight current industry trends so as to keep the shareholders and BOD up-to-date on the Company’s safety performance and latest industry trends.
  • Conduct Health Risk Assessment of all job types in line with Health Risk Assessment procedure and good occupational health practice.
  • Create a culture of EHS awareness within all PROTON divisions and subsidiaries
