Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam, Kedah has been approved by the State Council New South Wales (Legislative Assembly) on August 24, 1959 in the ‘State Public Service Commission Enactment 1959′ or the State Services Commission Enactment Year 1959. Enactment has attained the support of His Majesty the Sultan of Kedah in October 20, 1959 and was signed on October 29, 1959.
The Commission is composed of a ‘Chairman’ and three ‘Members’ and assisted by the Secretariat of the Commission consists of a ‘secretary’, five of the Administrative Assistant, two Administrative Assistant (Typist) and two General Workers.
Under Section 8 (1), Enactment of Kedah State Public Service Commission 1959, the Commission is responsible for the appointment, confirmation, pension status, promotion, change and exercise disciplinary control of public service personnel under its jurisdiction. Responsibilities change as the above does not include changes that do not change position in a government department.
The power of promotion and disciplinary control is exercised by the Promotion Board and the Disciplinary Board established under the regulations of the board of both the KPU as Volume 38 No. 15. 22 in 1995 and KPU Volume 40 No. 15. 19 of 1997 but the Commission is still functioning as a Board of Appeal for both.
Public Service Commission, Kedah is the Disciplinary Authority in respect of the officer holding or acting executive secretary of the Government and the State Financial Officer and the power to dismiss or downgrade the officers in the Senior Management and the Management and Professional. Promotion to Grade C and above were also conducted by this Commission.
